The Best Time to Eat for Weight Loss and Blood Sugar

For most people, the best pattern is a proper breakfast within 1–2 hours of waking, the main meal at lunch, and a lighter dinner finished 2–3 hours before bed, ideally by 8 pm. Eating in a consistent 10–12 hour window aligned with daylight supports blood sugar, weight and sleep.

Your body clock and food

Every organ, including your liver, pancreas and gut, runs on a daily clock set mainly by light and meal times. Insulin sensitivity tends to be higher earlier in the day. That means a late, heavy dinner (common in Pakistan, where dinners at 10–11 pm are normal) can produce higher and longer glucose rises than the same meal at lunch.

Have a balanced snack around 6–7 pm so you aren't starving, choose protein and salad at the event, keep rice and dessert portions small, and get back to your normal routine the next day.

Is this intermittent fasting?

Is it bad to eat after 8 pm?

Not dangerous, but late heavy meals are linked to higher overnight blood sugar and poorer sleep in many people. If you must eat late, keep it light and protein-based.

Should I skip breakfast?

Many people do better with a protein-rich breakfast, especially those with diabetes or PCOS. Some do well with a later first meal. The plan should suit your body and routine.
